Giáo Triều Rôma thường được Đức Giáo Hoàng dùng để giải quyết những vấn đề của Giáo Hội phổ quát, hoàn thành nhiệm vụ của mình nhân danh dưới quyền Đức Giáo Hoàng để mưu ích và phục vụ các Giáo Hội; Giáo Triều Rôma gồm có phủ Quốc Vụ Khanh hay Văn Phòng Thư Ký của Đức Giáo Hoàng, Hội Đồng Công Vụ Giáo Hội, các Bộ, các Tòa Án, và các cơ quan khác; cơ cấu và thẩm quyền của những tổ chức đó do luật riêng ấn định.
Canon 360
The Supreme Pontiff usually conducts the business of the universal Church through the Roman Curia, which acts in his name and with his authority for the good and for the service of the Churches. The Curia is composed of the Secretariat of State or Papal Secretariat, the Council for the public affairs of the Church, the Congregations*, the Tribunals and other Institutes. Trong Bộ Luật này, từ ngữ Tông Tòa hoặc Tòa Thánh được áp dụng không những cho Đức Giáo Hoàng Rôma, mà cho cả phủ Quốc Vụ Khanh, Hội Đồng Công Vụ Giáo Hội và những cơ quan khác của Giáo Triều Rôma, trừ khi bản chất sự việc hay mạch văn cho hiểu cách khác.
Canon 361
In this Code the terms Apostolic See or Holy See mean not only the Roman Pontiff, but also, unless the contrary is clear from the nature of things or from the context, the Secretariat of State, the Council for the public affairs of the Church, and the other Institutes of the Roman Curia.
